The Coffee Wars Continues

While I was cheating on my coffee cart man this morning I happened to notice the new breakfast sandwich from Starbucks. It's called the Piadini which comes in various varieties of portobello mushroom, ricotta cheeses, sausage. On the other side of town Dunkin' Donuts has been promoting their Egg White Flatbread Sandwich. Dunkin' Donuts is the first fast food company to make an all egg white sandwich launched their product in late July along with the DD Smart Menu. Starbucks, a little late to the game started promoting their product in late September.

Calorie counter:

Egg White Veggie Flatbread:
290 Calories

Portobello Muschroom, Spinach, Feta and Ricotta Cheese w/ Egg Piadini
370 Calories

Also might I add the Piadini is nowhere to be found on the Starbucks website! I still think that McDonald's has the best deal going. The originator of the breakfast sandwich EggMcMuffin probably coined somewhere in the dictionary clocks in at 300 calories and probably a whole lot cheaper than Starbucks and Dunking Donuts. McDonald's recently got on the coffee bandwagon knocking Starbucks off their feet. They have also taken a serious effort to come clean with their ingredients and promote healthy choices. I think the biggest challenge McDonalds needs to overcome is their instore experience. Also, the fast food stereotype of McDonald's is very different from that of Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts. A tough case to overcome.

I will keep an eye out as this comical saga unfolds.
